      The ghost controller is most likely your keyboard. I have the exact same experience here. You could try removing the USB dongle for the keyboard, reboot and see if the PS3 pads are detected as 1 and 2.

      It was an issue for me because the PSX emu would not let me play, since the player1 controller was 'occupied', but i got around this by changing some config file, so controller 2 for player 1 and controller 3 is for player 2. Unfortunately i can't remember which config file it was. I am sure that someone would have this on the tip of their tongue.

      @doctorstork look in the location i mentioned. There may be shortcut links in there to the bios folder. If there is one for ecs.bin and ivoice.bin then put them in the bios folder. If not try where i mentioned first.

      @backstander
      Interestingly enough, it seems retroarch.cfg does not exist in my system and that may be what's causing the issue 0_o

      I'm gonna try resetting to defaults and see what happens! Thanks!

      @Furluge yeah i was the reason that raphael learned about the issue which affected a crap ton of controllers. Then he so awesomely found the bug in linux and created the fix for it. But yeah its been fixed for a long ole time. 😊

      Ok, you still seem to be saying "Nothing works, why?". Please post the information that has been requested in order to receive help.

      So:

      Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

      This means that you have to read it then provide information such as what game? on what system? with which emulator? When you post things like "When I select a game to play on any system the controls won't function" - What controls? with configurations which look like? in which file? with which controller?

      Your latest post is proof that you ignored my offer of assistance. Hopefully some kind soul will have more patience and will be able to assist you. I have spent too long typing out the requests laid out in
      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
      in a different way with an explanation as to why the information is needed. Imagine how much more assistance could have been provided if you filled out the form. Cue the post of "what form?"...........

      I solved this problem by deleted some things on my SD card to free up 1 GB of space. I was experiencing this problem when i had only 256 MB free.

      @markg said in xboxdrv works in FE / shell but not emulator:

      Is there a different place I should put this to make it more permanent?

      This setting can be hardcoded in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg. The entry you're looking for is:

      input_player1_joypad_index = "x"

      Something else that comes to mind and is completely untested by myself is that this setting could be altered alongside xboxdrv launching, so as to accommodate individual mappings and controllers on-the-fly. Try at your own risk, but something like this might work well:

      sed -i 's/input_player1_joypad_index = "*"/input_player1_joypad_index = "1"/g' /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

      @benlefou87 I had a similar problem using AdvMame when connecting one of my Mortal Kombat-Fightsticks.
      In my case editing the config-file via the sudo nano-command did the thing.
      I had to change the "joystick_input=auto" to "joystick_input=raw".
      After that, the joystick of the Arcade-Board was recognized in the TAB-Menu as "D-HAT (up, down, left & right)" and i was finally able to play with the sticks.
      I never changed it back to "auto" because the PS3-Controllers, which i also use for mame, work also with Input set to "raw".

      DonΒ΄t know if this also helps with MAME4all, but may be worth a try ;)

      I'm currently having the exact same issue.
      Only problem is that also my keyboard is having problems. So far only the arrow keys and shift seems to work, and not the "Enter" key, so I sort of can't select options in the Retroarch menu to turn off the Autoconfig.

      Edit- Ok, did some more searching into it and learned that enter is not the select key on the keyboard. Found some info here https://www.libretro.com/index.php/getting-started-with-retroarch/. Just discard my problems with the keyboard.

      @SpudsMcToole

      I can vouch for everyone who has suggested ruling out the TV as the issue. I only started out with the RPi/Retropie about 6 months ago. I started off using my LG 42" Plasma screen (bought in 2006) 720p. I definitely noticed lag like you describe (Mario slightly late jumping, etc.). It was a little disappointing, but I started reading and sure enough saw the suggestions similar to those above. My TV does not have a game mode.

      Took my RPi to my brother's Samsung 50" TV and saw immediate improvement (even without game mode turned on). I can't be sure game mode helped in addition but I assume it was probably slightly better. Regardless, the TV made all the difference and it plays very well on his TV.

      Now, I have the RPi connected to a 24" Samsung PC monitor that also works very well. In fact, nearly every TV/monitor I've tried was better than my TV.

      In addition to the other suggestions above, I definitely agree you should try a couple different screens if you have access.

      I'm also curious (now that I better understand the system) whether setting my RPi to 720p as default would've helped in the lag department.

      ok... you have to try... the command above to see in detail the two controller.
      sudo jstest /dev/input/js1
      sudo jstest /dev/input/js2

      this is the method to test joypad
      some people have problem with two joypad... "some cases"..

      i loose many ours to understand the behavior of a self-made joystick to bar cabinet ... and I still have some minor problems
      retopie 4.1 is a great project.. but there is some little matter to fix..

      try to understand if it responds in correct mode... than try to connect "only" ps4... and test it alone.
